Unexpected Valentines Shades of Love edition by Summerita Rhayne Literature Fiction eBooks

Unexpected Valentines, by Summerita Rhayne, was billed to be a collection of short stories “to make you believe in love”, but to me they are a collection of essays. This book includes seven “stories” in about 66 pages.

While reading the book, written by an author from India, I found many of the stories to be unrealistic. I don’t mean because they were futuristic or built in some fantasy world, but because they contained events that seemed too unrealistic in our contemporary society. After reading the book I happened to converse about the book with a friend from India and she informed me that much of what I felt was unrealistic was actually because of cultural differences and values. For example in the story “Chained to Shadows” the main characters are Victor and his deceased wife’s sister Amber. He is angry that she survived the car accident in which his wife Sonya died. Sometime after lashing out at her he discovers that Amber saved Sonya’s life when they were younger. Suddenly the reasons he was mad no longer exist and now he is in love with Amber. While this situation still seems far-fetched to me, I understand that I am looking at it from my American lenses. I was told by my friend that people in India act more on emotion.

In the title story, Unexpected Valentines, it was fun to read how fate put the two characters Sanjana and Ranveer together at the point of the party, for them to be reunited again at a later date. I really enjoyed the two stories, The Magic Within and Right or Wrong. These two stories were of marriages on the brink and how both parties had to find a way to recognize the love that still existed between them.

While I don’t often read stories by non-American authors, when I do I enjoy seeing the cultural differences that are often present in the work

Unexpected Valentines Shades of Love edition by Summerita Rhayne Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

By Ronald Tuhin D'Rozario

Unexpected Valentines is the first book that I read by the immensely gifted storyteller Summerita Rhayne. I was totally floored after reading this collection of short stories by the author. It had kept me engrossed from cover to cover.

The language is simple, the plot design are very real and brilliantly constructed. I felt this strange thing in the stories that, it immediately connects to the soul. One feels a strong resemblance of the stories with his own life. And soon the story becomes one's very own.

I appreciate the fact that the author had kept the seven different collection of stories, precise sticking to the plot and didn't played unnecessarily with words and phrases to add length in Romance, for Romance as a genre doesn't needs much of an explanation. Her book is very much heartfelt and am glad that the author had maintained it well.

Each of the stories in it are unique and refreshingly beautiful having a crisp edge of words. I could connect to its plots and characters very strongly and this book for sure will make you fall in Love once again.

Personally I Loved reading this book very much and am very sure that the readers gonna have a great time in reading it too. A perfect 5 /5 read I would rate it and would highly recommend all to read it especially during this season of Love, Valentine's Day for a lasting effect.
WHAT I FELT ABOUT THE BOOK

WOWs!!

The reads Short and sweet, each entirely different from the other. They are filled with drama and subtle romance. No vulgarity.

Each story in the book reveals how love can be found and experienced in the most unexpected quarter. One can feel the characters come live before the eyes. Their inner turmoil, doubts and ecstasy are well reflected. One can easily relate to Kaira’s doubts regarding her relationship with Aditya, the suspicions gnawing Arnav and his sense of insecurity stemming from Siddharth’s feelings for Raina on the one hand and the spell cast by Ranveer on Sanjana in their very first meeting.

The twists in some are unexpected. ‘Hooded Desire’ is one such read where the end came as a pleasant surprise.

Characterization The characters are well etched with all their imperfections. One can easily relate to each one of them.

Language Language, crisp and lucid.

WRAPPING UP

Recommendation & Rating A simple and enjoyable read.
I got introduced to Summerita Rhayne's writing when I read her romance, Against All Rules. Sensually written, I absolutely adored the book and started following the author.

Unexpected Valentines released this Valentine's Day and is a collection of short stories all centering around love. Beautifully written, each story is unique in its treatment and elicits a different emotion from the readers.

The author's writing flows fluidly and she brings out the characters beautifully. I felt connected with their happiness and could not help myself from rooting for a happy ending during each new story. Having enjoyed and loved all stories equally, I cant pick a favourite and I liked the fact that the author even jumped genres to bring novelty in her stories.

The blurb is interestingly written and attracted my attention right from the start. The cover is nothing very special and I feel that the book can do with a better cover. However, my advise to you is to not judge the book by its cover and go read it.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and being a collection of short stories, they can read during breaks, while travelling or whenever you get even a few minutes. 4 out of 5 to Unexpected Valentines and recommended to all romance lovers. Feel the warmth of love and go enjoy these well written stories by a very talented author.
